Embracing the concept of “Rivers in the City”, the Drainage Services Department (DSD) has revitalised an aged concrete nullah in Jordan Valley, Ngau Tau Kok. Jordan Valley Channel, formerly known as Jordan Valley Nullah, serves to collect stormwater mainly from the area near Fei Ngo Shan and Ngau Tau Kok. Upon completion of the DSD’s revitalisation works that began in 2020, the Jordan Valley Nullah, an old-fashioned concrete nullah solely for the purpose of drainage, has been transformed into a multi-functional urban channel with green and ecological elements. The works were aimed at enhancing the environment, improving connectivity between the channel and its surroundings, as well as promoting a water-friendly culture. The approximately 330-metre long Jordan Valley Channel, which comprises an upstream ecological channel, a downstream green river and a river garden, has been open to the public since 25 April 2022. The revitalized Channel has improved the living standard of the nearby community without sacrificing the flooding control performance. Being members of the DSD, our team hopes to further promote the concept of “Rivers in the City” through participating in this competition. We aim to gain public support for the revitalization works of other traditional concrete channels with potential.
