Through online questionnaires, the team realized the problems relating poor habits in water usage and created WE $ave, a comprehensive solution to saving household water and electricity, and promoting effective use of resources. WE $ave Water The system applies an infra-red sensor which allows a water flow only when necessary. It also has a temperature-controlled valve and no water is wasted before it reaches a designated temperature. To promote an awareness of water conservation, a water-meter is connected through IoT to a phone app, and this facilitates using data for analysis and the proper planning of water use. WE $ave Electricity The system applies instant heating from a ceramics heater at the outlet. This increases efficiency and reduces energy loss in tanks and pipes. The unique function of a generator run by wastewater supplements energy use of the system and encourages the use of wastewater. WE $ave is easy to install by directly fitting to any tap. It is reasonably priced and will be highly popular on the market because of its varied and unique features in helping to save water, electricity and money.

Hearing-impaired people are people which have normal vision but not be able to discover things outside their field of vision, they may not be able to hear the sound so that easily caused inconvenience and even dangers to their daily lives. Therefore, we have invented “DEAF”. We collect the sounds of everyday life to train the neural network of artificial intelligence by machine learning. It can separate the noise in an environment and distinguish specific sounds of different events. We have designed a wearable device with vibration motors and send out instant messages on smartphones to notify the users to identify dangers or things worth paying attention to.
Nowadays, technology of sensation aid is advanced, appliances like hearing aid and prosthetic eye that assist ones’ hearing and vision are existing respectively. However, haptic aspect of this technology seems to remain absent. Prosthetic users, diabetes patients, as well as patients whose Neural System are damaged, have little haptic sensation, thus they often get injured as they don’t feel and touch their surroundings. Aiming for improvement of this scenario, this product “Super Skin” makes use of pressure sensors to record the strength and coordination of the pressure applied by the object that the feedback will be sent instantly to the user’s phone through an app to let the user know where is the object, and how large the force from object is. The thermochromic powder added in the skin will make the skin change its colour when hot or cold object is contacted. As a result, the disabled users can find out substantial information of the object by touching. The skin is wearable and flexible, making this product very convenient to use while not fearing to be damaged. We hope this product can act as a compensation of the lost sensation, enhancing the quality of life of a needy person.
According to the information from the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department in 2019, there were over 8,400 complaints about public toilets in the past three years. The problem of public toilets usually comes from hygiene and smell. To solve these problems, we have designed and made a smart toilet system with 4 major functions: (1) We use A.l. to identify the shapes of poop and give advice to your health status based on the medical Bristol Classification of the Stool. As there is no relevant poop database available in the world, we made the poop samples by clay and paint. (2) We use the method of illuminating UV light to the toilet seat at a close distance. It kills the bacteria on the toilet seat and quickly clean it. (3) We use pedals with adjustable height with people of different heights. Kneeling at a large angle (such as 35 degrees) is a more comfortable gesture to excrete all poop quickly and easily. (4) We use an air pump which is under the toilet seat to take away the bad smell directly. No one knows you are pooping and the next toilet user feels good!

Parkinson’s disease is a disease that affects the nervous system. Elderly people should seek medical advice immediately when they discover their symptoms. However the early symptoms of this disease are not obvious. Elderly can check whether they have the disease in hospital, but they need to wait for a long period and they may miss the best time for treatment. Therefore, we design and prepare a device called “Parkinson’s Disease Tester”. Jetson nano is microcontroller used in this tester to help elderly people detect Parkinson’s symptoms as early as possible. It uses “artificial intelligence” and “deep learning” technologies to check the spirals and waves drawn by the elderly using webcam, and preliminarily judge if the elderly have symptoms of Parkinson’s disease based on their drawing. For the society: l The tester allows the elderly to perform the test at home, i.e. reduce the workload of the medical staff l The tester helps promote health messages l The tester can awake society’s concern for Parkinson’s disease For manufacturers, due to the low production cost and the large number of elderly people, it has commercial value. For users, the tester is easy to operate, and the test results are accurate and reliable.
21st century medicine system Chan Min Yui, Lai Haocheng, Tan Yongjian Elderly people, due to weak visibility, always take medicine in improper way and forget to take medicine. The result of this is that they cannot recover their health. To assist them, we design and make a product called 21st century medicine system. The system includes: l Medicine labeling software l Medicine descriptor device l Medicine taking reminder Medicine labeling software (written using Microsoft Visual Basic) cooperates with the RFID reader to write the medicine information (function, storage method, side effects and medicine dosage) in the RFID label, and then the dispenser can stick the medicine label on the medicine bag. The elderly people can read the medicine information through the Medicine descriptor device (Arduino UNO as microcontroller, with RFID card reader and mp3 player as the electronic appliances used in the device). Medicine taking reminder (Arduino Mega 2560 as microcontroller) can remind the elderly people to take the medicine one minute before the time at which they need to take the medicine. It can also check whether ambient temperature is suitable for storing the medicine or not. The elderly people can also check the last time they took the medicine to conform if they have forgotten to take the medicine.

Accidents will occur if the drivers is drowsy when driving. To avoid this, we design and prepare an instrument called “Driver Drowsiness System” which uses Facial Recognition Technique to detect the status of the driver. The system uses Raspberry pi 4 as microcontroller to control the operation of the system, and webcam is used to monitor the drivers’ status. The features of “Driver Drowsiness System ” are as follows: l LED, LCD display and human-voice system are adopted to let passengers (including visually impaired and hearing impaired passengers) know that the driver is drowsy. When the driver is drowsy, passengers can immediately wake up the driver to protect their own safety and avoid traffic accidents l When the driver is drowsy, the system will immediately send an email to his/her supervisor so that he/she can contact the driver to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers, and to avoid traffic accidents l When the driver is drowsy, the system will immediately take photos and record the date and time of the driver’s drowsiness so that follow-up action can be taken by the public transport service and let the provider analyze the frequency of the driver’s drowsiness when driving
We have adopted the idea of undersea farming owing to the agricultural problems raised in recent decades. The model is only a miniature of our system. Our entire plan is to build an undersea farm along the coast of Hong Kong. The undersea farm has many towers having the main part below the sea level while the dome-shaped tops of the towers are above the sea level for the solar panels to generate electricity from solar energy. The electricity will be supplied to the LED light and the planting machine in every tower. In addition, there is a desalination plant along the coast line to provide fresh water for irrigating the crops in the farm. Being only the miniature of the towers, the model just demonstrates the operation process of the towers. Every tower contains one planting machine which can provide auto-planting including laying seeds, irrigating and harvesting. In addition, Internet of Things (IOT) is included in our system. The data of the system, say the temperature, humidity, air quality and light intensity, will be collected and uploaded to the Internet to monitor and control the system remotely by the engineers and technicians. It helps the process to be more convenient and effective.
Nowadays, the emission of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is one of the major contributors to air pollution. The main sources of VOCs are petroleum refineries, fuel combustions, chemical industries, cleaning products, printing presses, office supplies, etc. The most common VOCs are halogenated compounds, alcohols, acetone, aromatic compounds, etc. High concentrations of VOCs can cause irritations, dizziness, and headaches. Some VOCs are even carcinogenic for both humans and animals. Therefore, it is very important to eliminate VOCs to reduce its serious consequences. Photocatalytic oxidation of VOCs can handle a range of organic emissions under mild operating conditions. With UV activation, the electrons in the catalysts are excited to reduce VOCs into harmless substances, like carbon dioxide and water. The metal can be regenerated by oxygen so the photocatalysts are reusable. The effectiveness of different photocatalysts on reducing VOCs, ethanol, acetone, naphtha, and methylated spirits, are tested. This can be used with household air purifiers with coating on the filter to degrade VOCs effectively with a low running cost. The photocatalysts coated filter can operate with UV lamps installed into the air purifier. With the energy provided by the UV light, catalytic oxidation can be undergone to degrade the VOCs.
